Melbourne & Olympic Parks, Australia’s leading live event precinct, needed a versatile and efficient staging system for its high-demand venues, which host nearly 500 events annually, ranging from concerts and sports to trade shows and galas. With three roofed arenas—Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, and John Cain Arena—the challenge was to streamline setup processes while accommodating large-scale productions without compromising on safety or performance.
TAIT delivered a versatile, reconfigurable Rolling House Stage system designed to transform event logistics. The system allows the stage to roll into place while fully loaded, carrying up to 5kN/m² UDL, ensuring that entire band setups, including backline drum kits, and scenery, can be prepped in parallel with overhead rigging. This high point load capability enables fully-rigged stage movement, saving significant time and reducing labor costs. As Glen King, Head of Production Operations at Melbourne & Olympic Parks, noted, this innovation not only enhances operational efficiency but sets a new standard for Australian venues.
The TAIT team collaborated with Melbourne & Olympic Parks to ensure smooth integration of the stage system, capable of various configurations, including runways and B-stages. Project Manager James Pemblington, supervised the first stage setup, highlighting how quickly the team adapted the stage with minimal crew. The system's rolling capability and high load-bearing design allowed for uninterrupted parallel setup of both rigging and on-stage equipment.
