The Peninsula Hotel, a high-end luxury sponsor for Art Basel 2024 in Hong Kong, aimed to transcend traditional exhibit hosting by integrating its sophistication with the event's creative spirit. The vision: to support the production of an artwork titled "Esmeralda" by artist Kingsley Ng, creating a kinetic art display suspended from the hotel's roof that marries art with technology to captivate Art Basel attendees.
Partnering with TAIT, Art Partners and the Peninsula Hotel embarked on creating this innovative art installation. Utilizing five advanced winches and a Navigator control system, the setup was engineered to animate a breathtaking kinetic art display. This project was designed not just for its aesthetic appeal but to immerse guests in a narrative that blended luxury, movement, and creativity, transforming the hotel space into an interactive art experience.
Ng's Esmeralda created a mesmerizing visual experience symbolizing connection and flow. Accompanied by Arvo Pärt's 'Spiegel im Spiegel', the artwork evoked deep emotional responses. Visitors were moved by the blend of art and environment, transforming the hotel facade into a living, poetic canvas. The installation left a lasting impression on art enthusiasts and hotel guests, enhancing their overall experience and connection to the space.
